The Madras High Court on 13 October 2026 granted Sun TV Network Limited, the producer of Jailer 2, interim injunctions restraining the unauthorised copying, streaming and exhibition of the film, two days before its theatrical release on 15 October. Justice P.B. Balaji passed a common order on three applications filed by the company in its commercial suit, C.S.(Comm Div) No. 284 of 2026.
Sun Pictures, which describes itself as a division of Sun TV Network, credits Rajinikanth as the star and Nelson Dilipkumar as writer and director in its official trailer release. On the evening of the ruling, the banner posted ticket-booking links for the film on X.
What the court found
Justice Balaji recorded that the suit documents showed the company to be the producer, and noted its case that it had not authorised or licensed anyone to release the film. He held that a prima facie case had been made out, that infringement would put the producer to irreparable hardship, and that the balance of convenience lay in its favour. Interim relief was then granted in all three applications as prayed for.
Who the order covers
The first application, OA No. 1130 of 2026, is directed at unknown persons sued in John Doe form, including the owners and operators of the websites listed in the suit's Schedule A and their mirror sites. They are barred from copying, recording, uploading, streaming or otherwise making the film available, in Tamil or any other language in which it is dubbed or released, until the suit is decided.
The second, OA No. 1131 of 2026, places similar restraints on five named companies, listed as defendants 34 to 38, which include cable network operators. It covers copying, camcording, transmitting, exhibiting and playing the film.
The third, A No. 4432 of 2026, directs 33 internet, telecom and cable service providers to block the websites in the schedule. The direction extends to further mirror, redirect and alphanumeric variants that the producer or its agents, Aiplex Software Private Limited and Block x Technologies Private Limited, notify to them in writing.
Next hearing
The court issued notice to the respondents, returnable by 10 November 2026, and permitted private notice. It also directed the company to comply with Proviso (b) to Rule 3 of Order 39 of the Code of Civil Procedure. Advocate Rahul Balaji appeared for the applicant.
The order makes no reference to cinema screenings.
